Housing in Newton Upper Falls

Jump to Featured Listings

Newton Upper Falls is nestled along the portion of the east bank of the Charles River which borders the town of Needham. Unsurprisingly, the name is derived from nearby “falls” on the river. The historic register is populated with over 150 Upper Falls houses. Check out the historic Echo Bridge and trail. There is a small business district, all within walking distance of each other. The commercial center, Pettee Square, sits at the intersection of Oak Street and Ossipee Road hosting a mix of small retail and large businesses housed in converted mill buildings. Depending upon where you live, you might be within walking distance of the MBTA green line at 248 Lincoln St or within walking distance of the Needham Street commercial corridor.

And the thirteenth is Four Corners… which is more of a neighborhood than a village. All this gives rise to the statement, “In some ways, villages in the city of Newton are a state of mind; there are no formal borders, but everyone knows in which village he lives.” Perhaps it’s because each retains its own distinctive neighborhood feeling and architecture. In any case, even though some village names are official Post Office town designations, this village-based system often causes some confusion with addresses to first time visitors. A prime example is Chestnut Hill. It actually shares its name with a neighboring area in the Town of Brookline and in the city of Boston.
